Other Millennium Commission awards

Millennium Awards – a £200 million scheme for grants to individuals which allowed 32,000 people to carry out work in their community from setting up youth groups on inner city estates, to leading neighbourhood clean-up projects and establishing schemes to tackle racism.  The Commission left behind a £100m endowment to all a new organisation, UnLtd, to carry on the good work.

Millennium Encore - a £1.3 million programme allowing 70,000 young people of school age to visit a range of professional performing arts productions, including theatre, musical theatre, opera, ballet, orchestra and ensemble music productions.

Millennium Festival – 2,000 pageants, carnivals, parades, exhibitions, performances and fairs were held from Shetland Isles in the North to Cornwall in the South, and from Fermanagh in the West to Suffolk in the East.

Urban Cultural Programme – a £20 million scheme for cultural projects in 19 urban areas across the UK building on the success of European Capital of Culture.

ReDiscover – a joint £34 million venture with the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation helping science centres and museums to renew and refresh their exhibits.

Millennium Trust – a £40 million scheme with other funders to create the Legacy Trust UK to support a UK- wide programme of projects to promote the Olympic and Paralympic ideals celebrating mind, body and spirit and offer young people and diverse communities the opportunity to fully participate in the build up and delivery of the wider vision for the Games in 2012.

UK School Games - the Commission played a central role in starting the UK School Games by supporting the first Games in Glasgow in 2006.
